Aria OMR, also known as the Students' Exams Management System (SEMS), helps educational organizations manage examinations, process multiple-choice answer sheets, and prepare results.

My role

As a co-founder and software engineer at Aria Soft, I built the application from the ground up. My work included answer-sheet processing, data validation, and examination result calculation, alongside product updates, troubleshooting, and performance improvements.

Examination workflow

  • Manage the examination workflow, from exam preparation and answer keys to processing answer sheets and producing results.
  • Read answer sheets captured with an ordinary scanner, a document scanner, or a camera.
  • Export results to Excel and PDF for reporting and distribution.
  • Deliver results by SMS when the organization provides a modem, SIM card, and message credit.

Product reach and capacity

Aria Soft documents the following capabilities for the product:

  • Processing of up to 3,000 answer sheets in five minutes.
  • Support for 17 answer-sheet formats, with additional formats introduced as needs evolve.
  • Use by more than 130 educational organizations across Afghanistan.

Technology

I built the desktop interface with C#, WPF, and the MVVM pattern, using Dapper and MySQL for data access and storage.
